Textile Arts

The Textile Arts Guild of Adamastor consists of people who are interested in all forms of needlework, leatherwork and weaving, basically anything to do with textiles and thread, as used in the relevant period 800-1600 AD. This incorporates embroidery, tabletweaving, sewing, leatherwork, knitting, spinning and sprang. Our members are extremely industrious, with some having received Society-wide recognition for their outstanding work. We are very informal, as inevitably there is always someone making something, so we usually meet to discuss particular points of interest, or just to catch up on what everyone else is doing. We have an extensive library of Textile Art-related books distributed amongst our members, so there is sure to be some information on any Art that you might fancy

Cooking

The Adamastor Cooks are an informal grouping, currently four core feast cooks plus additional Shire members who cook occasionally. The Guild meets every two months or so for a session of cooking, usually with a theme; guild meetings are a good space to try out new recipes, just for fun or with future feasts in mind. Recent themes have included Roman cookery, Andalusian recipes and medieval German cuisine. We swop medieval (and often mundane) recipes, argue about interpretation, taste each others' dishes and consume the results with enthusiasm and a critical eye. Between us, we have a fair selection of medieval recipes from a wide spread of times and cultures, which we are always thrusting on Shire members. We welcome anyone with an interest in cooking, including would-be cooks as well as non-cooks who are interested in tasting the results and don't mind minor scullion duties.

Dancing

The Dancing Guild meets at the UCT Campus Library Hall on the last Sunday of every second month at 3.30pm. We also dance at most large events and feasts. The dancing practised by the SCA is mostly English Country Dancing dating from the 14th to 16th Century. Dancers do not need to come with partners and the steps are easily learnt by young and old. Check the calendar for our next practise or contact the Minister of Arts and Science to be put into contact with the Mistress of Dance
